Hope

Kristen's Flowers, age 13

Hope is a magic word,

curled up in the bud of every flower,

kissed on the roseblushed clouds of dawn,

sprayed sterling across the stars of the deep night sky..

may we each imbibe,

the grace of hope..

Dia de los Reyes

Tradition

Christmas Rose

Baked with love..

The children made their annual Rosca de Reyes, Three Kings Bread, for Epiphany; the day tradition says that Gaspar, Balthasar, and Melchior arrive at the stable. A Mexican friend says ours tastes just like her abuelo used to make..

Every year we deliver wrapped slices to the doors of friends; the lucky child who finds the baby figure baked into their cake is hostess to a tamale party on Candlemas, inviting all who ate the Rosca ~ our friends from Spain tell us that he who finds the baby has good luck all year, double if they ate the Grapes on New Years day! But my favorite is that he who finds the baby is made Godfather (or, Godmother I presume) to the baby Jesus in the family creche for that year.

Every year our children want to add more babies..

this year there are 17!

the children were 5 & 7 when they did these sketches of the Magi

This ornament still blesses our Christmas tree :-)
